Good Morning Gators!
2 Goat restaurants in a row. Last time it was Duck Duck Goat.
Thank you Wendy White for the suggestion
OK let’s roll. This should be a short one.
The place is situated on the Highlands golf course in Elgin. It’s near the never ending construction of McLean and 20. It wasn’t hard to find.
They only do brunch on Sunday. It’s only a few hours.
Of course I was at the entry at 8. They were NOT ready. Chairs up and wet floor. We stood around waiting for them to get ready for business.
While you are waiting for the floor to dry, have a look at some clubhouse photos…
That was exciting.
OK the floor is dry enough. Here we go.
Parquet style floor and Plaid bar stools. A bit busy but nice.
The dining room is fully carpeted. UGH You know how I feel about carpet in Restaurants and if you don’t check the rant page.
Coffee was good 8 Water Bottle on the table and a flower cup 8 Fake Splenda. My brother says it gives him a headache. 2 It doesn’t seem to bother me though. The music was mostly 40’s Like breakfast with Bennie Goodman 7
The menu had some imaginative choices. Kudos to the Chef. It was borderline on too many.
First pick a Benedict that I didn’t write down the name of. (DOPE) I think it was called CBB Benedict. It had extra thick candied Bacon Blueberries and Cinnamon Bacon whipped cream. Yes it sounds odd so you know I have to try it. It was actually pretty good. The Bacon was rendered out properly The blueberry was a light compote and the Bacon flavored whipped cream worked. The 2 weak spots were the overcooked poached eggs and the cubed Sweet potatoes. The potatoes were seasoned well but undercooked. Crunchy. This dish was a bit out of the box which I Love. In spite of the execution errors it was a 7 With a little bit of care this could have been a 9
It was served with homemade Banana Bread and some sides.
Apple Butter 8 Blackberry something 7 and a compound butter that tasted a bit like soap. 4 The Bread was good. It was lacking nuts. I like Walnuts in my BB. It was warm soft and fresh. I would have love to have had this toasted under the salamander or put on the flattop. It would have upped the score. 7
My guest requested that the eggs not be overcooked. I was unhappy at this request. I like the dishes to be served the way that they normally prepare them to get a genuine feel of how they go out of the kitchen.
They eggs were close to perfect 9 Because I had already had poached I probably would have ordered this with Sunny Side Up or Over Easy Eggs. I was offered Poached or Scrambled. Most of you know that the only Scrambled eggs I like are Mine. so Poached it was. The Crawfish mixture of Celery Bell Peppers Onions and potatoes was pretty tasty. Needed a touch of salt. It was spicy but not overly 7
Bananas Foster Dutch Baby
The Baby was good and Eggy. Could have been cooked a tad more. The Bananas were a bit over but warm gooey and sweet with a touch of Bourbon 8
OK Gators That’s it
The Grumpy Goat was a decent visit. Barbara our server was great.
It’s right down the street from Sweet Berry. A regular Gator Stop. It’s a whole different feel. Tell them to throw some Banana Bread on the grill for you.
As for ME I’m off to to my next Adventure!
