Oddly enough we arrived at The Little Goat Diner shortly before they opened. (Or so I thought). I Parked the BREKFST Mobile about a block away and ponied up the parking money. I grabbed my Camera Pack and off we went. I stopped, stood in the street, and took my usual front of the building shot. Done. We approached the revolving door on the front of the restaurant.
If you look closely at the picture you can see a sign stuck to the right side of the revolving entry door. (I was too mad and cold to take a picture) The sign said that they were closed for construction for the next few days. UGH! Back to the car. After deliberating I made a decision to go to Wishbone. It was on my list and close by. Drive, Re Park, Re Feed the Meter, Head to the Restaurant.
Usual window spot. Usual tiny table. Usual Coffee and water order. Kimberly brought our drinks and extra napkins over right away. 10 Coffee is Meh 7 There IS Splenda though.
The Decor is Shabby Chic. Beat up wood Chairs and floors (no carpet 10) 60’s pop/rock music 8 and brightly colored Pastel Pencil Pictures of Crabs, Vegetables, and Deranged Chickens. 8
Time to peruse the menu. It’s moderately large. It took me awhile to make a decision. Hmmm
Ok Here we go
Spicy craw fish tail patties served with roasted red pepper sauce. Served w/ 2 eggs any style.
If you look at the second photo of this series you may have noticed the telltale signs of an egg cooked in plastic wrap. The wrinkles in the egg are the tell. Well Gators I’m going to let you in on how it’s done by linking you to this French Guy telling you how to do it. You’re Welcome.
I put the poached eggs on top of the Crawfish Cakes, poured on some sauce, and broke one open. Water gushed out. The egg took on some water when they reheated it. 4 The Sauce is good. a bit sweet. Good contrast to the CF Cake. 8 The Crawfish cake was meaty and spicy. Really needed to be cooked a little more. The spices tasted a bit raw and the center was pretty soft 7 The potatoes were seasoned well, oniony, and slightly crisp. 8 The supplied Corn Muffin tasted ok but was a bit doughy 7 Overall a pretty decent dish 7 Crisp up those Cakes in some butter give em a Lemon squeeze and you can push it up to an easy 8.
Shrimp & Grits
Sauteed with bacon, mushrooms & scallions with white wine and cream over cheese grits.
Good Biscuit. Scooped type as opposed to rolled and cut. Soft Fluffy Puffy 8 Shrimp not deveined and overcooked. 6 Sauce is decent Bacony and Mushroomy. A bit to much Scallion for me 7 The Grits are delicious Soft Super Creamy and Cheesy 8 Overall a strong 7 Would have been an 8 but the Shrimp knocked it down. I would definitely order the Grits ala cart again.
Crunchy French Toast
Made with thick sliced challah bread dipped in corn flakes.
Well as usual the bread isn’t soaked long enough so its dry inside but it IS crunchy outside. The cornflakes are a fun twist. It was an overall 7
NOTE: None of the dishes had Orange Slice Garnishes! 10
Well Gators that it. Next time your Near HARPO Studios stop in at Wishbone.
I’m off to my next adventure!
